Decoding each function of a rfid reader – Gathering information and more

February 11, 2022

An RFID reader is a radio frequency identification reader, a device to assemble the information available on an RFID tag. This tag enables users extensively to track individual items and objects. Radio waves act as the medium to transfer the information from the tag to the reader. These readers and tags work similarly to the barcodes. However, the range of a rfid reader is different from that of the barcode reader – 3 to 300 feet.

However, one might wonder about the function of these readers. Here are the roles of an RFID reader.

  1. Tracking inventories

During an audit, the auditor usually checks and tracks all inventory units. So, warehouses often attach an RFID tag to each unit or a storage box during acquisition. The tag number becomes an identity basis for the commodity it is attached to. So, scanning the tags make it easier to carry out the audit.

  1. Avoiding robberies

Companies dealing with valuable commodities or dealing with sensitive information find it safe to attach an RFID scanner at the door and other doorways within the premises. So, the security executives are instantly alarmed if someone tries to leave with some item with the RFID tag.

  1. Better property control

Company or manufacturing units may use the tags on any property or asset that might get stolen. For example, some machines cost a fortune, and it is wise to keep these safe with a rfid reader and tag.

So, radio frequency identification is similar to barcodes and act as a security and inventory management tool. The unique tags and easy-to-use scanners make it convenient for users.
